Showing 5 reviews Rating:5 Previously seen and photographed when it wasn’t open, over the years. But finally popped into the first open day of the year. Friendly volunteers, I had a look around getting my photos. Later posting on social media etc. Second Saturday of each month, April to October each year. Can walk directly from Smethwick Galton Bridge Station via the Galton Bridge and the BCN New Mainline canal towpath. Then up some steps to the Old canal.

Rating:5 A former pumping station now open as a canal heritage museum. I’m not sure if it has been temporarily closed because of the COVID situation, but under normal circumstances, it has a monthly opening days during the warmer months. You can also feed the ducks on the canal. There is a free car park nearby as well.

Rating:4 a small museum (opened one Saturday a month during the summer); it was opened in the 1890s, closed in the 1920s & reopened as a museum in the 1980s… a nice little bit of history in the Black Country & these days entirely manned/looked after by volunteers from the ‘Friends of Galton Valley Pumping Station’ who have maintained it quite nicely considering the alternative would have been it becoming derelict and most likely demolished by now…
