The gardens here are amazing, a really lovely woodland walk! Quiet and away from any traffic so there’s no noises. Inside the museum is fab! Really great priced gift shop, and amazing bits to see, including a mummy!! All my children (5,5,1) really loved the few hours there. There’s trails for the children too, to keep them focused. The butterfly house left something to be desired. Kind of looked like someone’s dilapidated back garden.

It’s a long time since we have visited and while it has changed it does seem to been more appropriate to young families who may not normally do museums.
A few interactive items not working and the globe in the Africa section needs replacing as the UK has been fully rubbed off.

But overall a nice little museum though desperately lacking a cafe.

Interesting museum and it’s free! Lovely staff. Nice to walk around the grounds and down to the boating lake.

The Museum (FREE Entry !) also allows admission to the nearby Butterfly House (open April to Halloween). Although it is a small museum, it can nonetheless provide a good & interesting half day out – with the surrounding park & Butterfly House. Local History & Ancient Egypt are the principal themes, but there is also a well stocked shop with plenty of tempting souvenirs (especially for kids) & hot beverages. The staff are nice & friendly (& in the Butterfly House, quite knowledgeable as well !) Although I visited in mid August, there weren’t a lot of Butterflies in the Butterfly House, but there was very cheap Tea & Coffee there (plus low cost souvernirs) – together with the chance to handle some bugs ! Worth a visit, definitely. Oh, and the toilets in the Museum are worth a visit too – for the art on display inside !

A great place to spend a morning or afternoon. Free parking and lots of walks and trails to enjoy.
Staff were really friendly and enthusiastic, and (shoutout to Elizabeth!) gave us a basic run down of the history of the house and the story of Bagshaw on arrival which was a lovely touch!
Three rooms to explore downstairs and three rooms upstairs, my favourite being the Eygpt room!
Entry is free, and gift shop is reasonably priced.
